Jesus, the Bread of Life

As we reflect on the past year and look ahead to what’s coming, one truth stands above everything else: Jesus is great, and He is wonderfully good to us. In a world that constantly promises satisfaction but rarely delivers, Jesus offers something no one else can, true life, lasting peace, and a love that never runs dry.

In John 6:35, Jesus speaks words that are as comforting today as they were when He first said them. He doesn’t invite us to strive harder or search longer. He simply invites us to come to Him.

Only Jesus Truly Satisfies

Jesus calls Himself the Bread of Life. Bread is basic, essential, and sustaining. By using this image, Jesus shows us that He is not just a part of our lives, He is meant to be the source of our lives.

We often try to satisfy our hunger with success, comfort, busyness, or even good things that were never meant to replace Him. Yet Jesus gently reminds us that every other source leaves us wanting more. He alone fills our hearts completely. His greatness is seen not only in His power, but in His generosity toward us.

A Savior Who Welcomes Us

What makes Jesus so wonderful is not just who He is, but how He treats us. “Whoever comes to me shall not hunger… whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” There are no exclusions, no fine print, no limits to His grace.

Jesus does not withhold Himself from us. He welcomes us again and again, even when we come weary, distracted, or unsure. His greatness is matched by His kindness, and His glory is revealed through His care for us and our families.

Worship Together as a Family

One meaningful way to center our hearts on the greatness of Jesus is through worship. This week, take time as a family to listen to:

Scripture for the Week

John 6:35“Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.’”

Read this verse together and talk about what it reveals about Jesus’ heart toward you.

Connect as a Family

Use one question each day to spark conversation and reflection:

  1. What does Jesus mean when He calls Himself the Bread of Life?

  2. How has Jesus satisfied our hearts this past year?

  3. In what ways have we tried to fill our hunger or thirst with things other than Jesus?

  4. Why do you think only Jesus can truly satisfy us?

  5. How does trusting Jesus give us hope for the year ahead?

  6. What would it look like for our family to come to Jesus more often this new year?

  7. How does this verse show us how loving and generous Jesus is toward us?

Prayer

Lord, You are so wonderful to our family. You are worthy of it all. You have been faithful in every season, and we do not take for granted Your caring and merciful hand upon us. We invite Your will into every part of our family, our hearts, our home, and our future. We trust You completely and are excited to see the great things You will do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

As we step forward, may our confidence rest in the greatness of Jesus. He is enough. He always has been, and He always will be.
