Great Is the Glory of the Lord

Great Is the Glory of the Lord

There is something powerful that happens when we stop and consider the greatness of God. Psalm 138:4–5 paints a beautiful picture of this truth:“All the kings of the earth shall give You thanks, O Lord, for they have heard the words of Your mouth, and they shall sing of the ways of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord.”

Even the most influential leaders, kings, rulers, people with power, will one day acknowledge the greatness of God. Why? Because once someone truly hears His words and understands His ways, the only right response is worship.

Worship isn’t just something we do on Sundays. It’s a posture of the heart. It’s the way we lift God high in our homes, our conversations, and our decisions. When we remember how great His glory is, our worries shrink and our faith grows stronger.

Hearing the Words of His Mouth

The psalm reminds us that the kings give thanks because they “heard the words of His mouth.” God’s Word has power, power to guide, correct, encourage, and transform.

As families, we need to make sure we’re doing the same:Hearing Him.Making space for His voice.Letting His truth shape our day.

Whether through Scripture reading, worship music, family prayer, or simple conversations about God, hearing His Word helps us stay aligned with His heart.

Singing of His Ways

The psalm also says they “shall sing of the ways of the Lord.”Worship is a response to revelation. When we see who God is, our hearts want to sing. Worship helps us remember His faithfulness, celebrate His goodness, and declare His greatness.

As a family, finding simple ways to worship, singing together, turning on a worship playlist during breakfast, praying before bed, can shift the atmosphere of your home. Worship brings unity, peace, and joy.

Family Connection for the Week

Use these questions to help your family slow down, reflect, and draw closer to God together:

  • Why do you think even kings will give thanks to the Lord?

  • What does it mean that they “heard the words of His mouth”?

  • How can we make sure we listen to God's words in our home?

  • Why is singing about the ways of the Lord important?

  • What are some ways we can celebrate God’s greatness as a family?

  • What part of God’s glory stands out to you the most?

  • How can our family show thankfulness to God in everyday life?

Let these questions spark meaningful conversations and help root God’s Word deeper into your family’s heart.

Family Prayer

Lord, You are great and mighty. There is no one like You, God. Let us always praise You in song. Hear the requests of our family, God. We know You have the power and authority to provide all that we need. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
