Seek First the Kingdom of God | What Comes First?
Every day, we make countless decisions about what deserves our time, attention, and energy. Work demands our focus. School assignments fill our schedules. Sports, hobbies, entertainment, and responsibilities can quickly crowd our calendars. None of these things are necessarily bad, but Jesus gives us a clear priority that should shape everything else.
In Matthew 6:33, He says:
"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."
Before anything else, Jesus calls us to seek God. When He is first in our lives, everything else begins to fall into its proper place.
What Does It Mean to Seek God First?
Seeking God first means making Him our highest priority. It means spending time in His Word before the distractions of the day take over. It means talking with Him in prayer, worshiping Him with grateful hearts, and asking for His wisdom before making decisions.
Seeking God isn't something we do only when life becomes difficult. It's a daily pursuit that shapes the way we think, live, and love. When our hearts are fixed on God, our priorities begin to reflect His priorities.
Trust God's Provision
Jesus spoke these words while teaching people not to worry about their everyday needs. He reminded them that their heavenly Father already knew what they needed. Seeking God's kingdom doesn't mean ignoring our responsibilities. Instead, it means trusting that God will faithfully provide as we faithfully follow Him.
When we place Him first, we discover that His peace is greater than our anxiety, His wisdom is greater than our understanding, and His provision is greater than anything we could provide on our own. God has always been faithful, and He will continue to be faithful.
Build a Home That Seeks Jesus
One of the greatest gifts parents can give their children is a home where Jesus comes first.
That doesn't require perfection. It simply requires intentionality.
Read Scripture together. Pray together. Worship together. Talk about God's faithfulness throughout the week. Celebrate answered prayers and encourage one another to keep seeking Him.
When a family consistently puts Jesus at the center, they build a foundation that will stand through every season of life. May your family become known not simply for what you accomplish, but for the God you faithfully seek.
