Looking to the Cross: A Family Reflection on Jesus' Servant Heart
Have you ever taken a moment to truly reflect on why Jesus came? Not just what He did, but why He did it? Mark 10:45 gives us a beautiful and powerful answer:
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Jesus didn’t come to be praised by crowds or elevated above others—though He surely deserved both. He came with humility, on mission to serve, love, and ultimately give His life for us. That kind of love changes how we see greatness, leadership, and the way we live within our own families.
This week, take time to listen as a family to the worship song “When I Look To The Cross” (feat. Jocelyn Felix) by Radiant Collective. It beautifully captures the heart of Jesus’ sacrifice and reminds us where to fix our eyes—in moments of joy and pain, in strength and in surrender.
You can find the song on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.
Let this week be about more than just hearing the story of Jesus—let it be about following His example. Jesus redefined greatness not by position but by posture: the posture of a servant. As a family, we have the opportunity to reflect His heart by serving one another, laying down our pride, and loving with purpose.
Take time each day to talk through one of the questions below. Let Jesus’ servant-hearted love shape the way you talk, pray, and live together this week.
Family Discussion Questions (one for each day this week):
What does this verse reveal about Jesus’ purpose on earth?
How does Jesus redefine greatness through His example?
What does it mean to “serve” rather than “be served” in our daily lives?
Why is the phrase “gave His life as a ransom for many” significant?
How can we reflect Jesus' servant-hearted attitude in our relationships?
What areas of your life are hardest to surrender for the sake of others?
In what ways can your family better embody Jesus’ model of servant leadership?
