Jesus, the Name Above Every Name | The Power of His Name

Have you ever thought about what makes a name powerful? A name can carry reputation, authority, and honor. But there is one name that stands above every other name—the name of Jesus. Philippians 2:9–11 reminds us of this incredible truth:

“Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

This passage paints a beautiful picture of God’s plan to glorify His Son. One day, every person will recognize the authority of Jesus, whether they believed in Him during their lifetime or not. His name carries eternal weight, and His lordship is undeniable.

Honoring Jesus Daily

If every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord, then why wait until “one day”? As a family, we have the privilege of bowing our hearts now. We can honor Jesus with our words, our choices, and our worship. Making Him first in our plans and desires is more than just tradition—it’s a way of life.

Worship that Lifts His Name

A worship song that captures this truth is Who Else by Gateway Worship (featuring Abbie Gamboa). It reminds us that no one else compares to Jesus. He alone is worthy of praise, and when we worship, we’re lifting His name above every other name in our lives. Let this song be a reminder to your family that Jesus deserves our highest praise and deepest devotion.

Family Connection

This week, take time each day to read Philippians 2:9–11 together and reflect using these questions:

  1. What does it mean that God gave Jesus “the name above every name”?

  2. Why do you think every knee will bow before Jesus one day?

  3. How can we show honor to the name of Jesus in our home?

  4. What does it look like to confess that “Jesus Christ is Lord” in daily life?

  5. Why do you think God the Father is glorified when people honor Jesus?

  6. How can we practice bowing our hearts to Jesus now instead of waiting until later?

  7. What’s one way we can remind others that Jesus is Lord through our actions?

These conversations will help your family not only understand the passage but also put Jesus at the center of daily living.

Living for God’s Glory

God exalted Jesus so that His name would be lifted above all others. As families, we get to join in that eternal chorus by honoring Him now. Let’s live in such a way that our lives point others to the greatness of His name.

Bible Verse

Philippians 2:9–11“Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Prayer

“Lord, You are worthy of all praise and worship. No one and nothing else is worthy—only You, Jesus. We put You first in our plans, desires, and dreams. Help us as a family to honor You in every part of our lives. You are holy, Lord. May You be glorified in our lives and in our family. Amen.”
