Good News of Great Joy

Joy That Breaks Through Fear

Have you ever noticed that the very first words spoken by the angel on the night Jesus was born were “Fear not”? Before announcing anything else, God made sure His people knew they didn’t have to be afraid. Into a world full of uncertainty, worry, and darkness, God sent a message of comfort; and then a message of joy.

Luke 2:10 tells us, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”This wasn’t just good news, it was life-changing news. The Savior had come. Hope had arrived. And joy, real, lasting, unshakable joy, was now available to everyone.

This same joy is still for us today. No matter what’s happening in the world or in our homes, Jesus brings a joy that cuts through fear and lifts our hearts. His presence replaces worry with peace and turns ordinary moments into reminders of God’s love.

One worship song that beautifully captures this theme is “The Joy / Joy to the World” (Feat. David Dennis) by The Belonging Co. It echoes the message the angels sang over the shepherds; a celebration that the King has come, and with Him comes joy too powerful to ignore.

As you listen this week, let the words help your home remember: Jesus is our joy.

Family Connection: Talking About Joy Together

Use these conversation starters throughout the week to help your family truly take hold of the joy Jesus brings:

  • Why do you think the angel’s first words were “Fear not”?

  • What makes the news of Jesus “good news” to you personally?

  • How would you describe “great joy” in your own words?

  • Why is it important that this good news is “for all the people”?

  • How can our family share this good news with others?

  • What fears do we sometimes need God’s help to overcome?

  • When have you recently felt the joy that Jesus brings?

These questions help remind us that joy isn’t just something we feel, it’s something we practice, celebrate, and share.
