Worship Begins With Remembering
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to focus on what you don't have instead of all that God has already given you? Life moves quickly. We rush from one responsibility to the next, and before long we can begin taking God's blessings for granted. Yet Psalm 103 reminds us to slow down and intentionally lift our hearts in worship:
"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!"
David isn't simply telling himself to sing a song. He's calling every part of his being, his heart, mind, strength, and soul, to worship the Lord. Genuine worship begins when we remember who God is and respond with gratitude.
God Is Worthy of Our Praise
God is worthy of praise not only because of what He does, but because of who He is.
He is holy. He is faithful. He is loving. He is merciful. Every breath we take is a gift from Him. Every good thing we enjoy ultimately comes from His hand. Sometimes we praise God because He answered a prayer. Other times we praise Him because He remained faithful when life was difficult. No matter the season, His character never changes. When we remember God's goodness, praise becomes our natural response.
Worship With Your Whole Heart
David writes, "all that is within me." God doesn't desire half-hearted worship or occasional gratitude. He invites us to love Him with our whole hearts. Worship is more than music we sing on Sunday, it's the posture of a life surrendered to Him every day.
As families, we can cultivate hearts of worship by thanking God together, praying together, and regularly talking about His faithfulness. Children learn gratitude when they hear their parents praise God not only during victories but also during life's challenges.
The more we worship, the more we recognize that God Himself is our greatest treasure. His blessings are wonderful, but they should never become more important than the One who gives them.
Bless the Lord With All That Is Within Me - Count Your Blessings
The song 10,000 Reasons beautifully reminds us that we will never run out of reasons to praise the Lord. Take a few moments this week as a family to list the ways God has blessed you. Thank Him for salvation, forgiveness, your family, your church, His daily provision, His guidance, and His constant presence. When gratitude becomes a habit, joy begins to flourish. May your home become a place where God's name is continually honored and where praise is spoken freely from grateful hearts.
Family Conversation Starters
Use these questions throughout the week:
What's your favorite thing about the Lord?
Why is God worthy of our praise?
What are some ways we can praise God every day?
What does "all that is within me" mean?
What is one blessing God has given you this week?
What's one thing you have taken for granted from God?
What is one reason you want to praise God today?
Worship This Week
Listen to 10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman as a family this week. As you sing together, reflect on the countless ways God has shown His goodness and faithfulness. Let this song remind your family that there will never be an end to the reasons we have to bless His holy name.
Prayer
Lord, we bless You with our lives and with all that is within us. Your name is holy and worthy to be praised. We love You more than the things with which You have blessed us. May Your joy continually fill our lives. In Jesus' name, Amen.
