Bible Verses on the Greatness of God
The Greatness of God on Display
Have you ever paused to truly consider how great God is? His goodness, His power, His faithfulness, and His love are seen all throughout Scripture. Psalm 34:8 invites us to experience it personally: “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!” God’s greatness is not distant, it is something we can know, encounter, and live in every day.
James 1:17 reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from Him. Psalm 100:5 declares that His steadfast love endures forever. From generation to generation, God remains consistently good, unchanging, and faithful.
A God Who Never Changes
One of the most comforting truths about God’s greatness is His consistency. Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” In a world that constantly changes, God remains steady.
Exodus 34:6 describes Him as “merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love.” Nahum 1:7 adds that “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble.” His greatness is not only seen in His power, but in His character. He is both mighty and compassionate.
His Goodness in Our Lives
God’s greatness is not just theological, it is personal. Psalm 23:6 reminds us that His goodness and mercy follow us all the days of our lives. Romans 8:28 assures us that He is working all things together for good for those who love Him.
Even in difficult seasons, we can reflect on His faithfulness. Isaiah 63:7 speaks of recounting the steadfast love of the Lord. Lamentations 3:25 reminds us that “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him.” God’s greatness is seen not only in what He does, but in how He walks with us through every season.
The Love of a Great Shepherd
John 10:11 reveals the heart of Jesus: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” God’s greatness is most clearly seen in His love. He does not stand far off; He comes near, leads us, and even lays down His life for us.
Matthew 7:11 reminds us that if earthly fathers know how to give good gifts, how much more does our heavenly Father give good things to those who ask Him. His greatness is expressed through His care for us.
The Hope We Have in Jesus
At the center of God’s greatness is the truth found in John 11:25: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.” Jesus is not only powerful—He is life itself. Through Him, we have hope beyond this life and confidence in eternity.
Living in Awe of His Greatness
When we recognize how great God is, it changes how we live. We worship with greater passion, trust Him more deeply, and lead our families with greater faith. Worship becomes a natural response as we reflect on His goodness and greatness.
Take time as a family this week to reflect and talk together:
What do you think Jesus meant when He said, “I am the resurrection and the life”?How does believing in Jesus give us hope, even in difficult times? What does this verse teach us about life after death? How does this truth change the way we live every day?In the song “How Great Thou Art,” what stands out to you most? How does worshiping God help strengthen our faith? What do you look forward to in eternity?
