Worship is not just something we do, it’s who we are. God created us to glorify Him, delight in Him, and respond to His greatness with praise. Worship lifts our eyes above circumstances and places our hearts back where they belong—fixed on Jesus.
Here are 10 powerful worship scriptures from the ESV, each reminding us of God’s worthiness and our calling to praise Him.
1. Worship with Everything You Have
Psalm 150:1–6 (ESV) Praise the Lord!Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens!2 Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness!3 Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp!4 Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe!5 Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals!6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!Praise the Lord!
Worship is meant to be alive and expressive, God is worthy of loud, joyful praise!
2. True Worshipers Worship in Spirit and Truth
John 4:23 (ESV) 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.
God isn’t seeking performance, He’s seeking hearts that worship from a place of sincerity and truth.
3. Everything That Has Breath Praise the Lord
Psalm 150:6 (ESV) Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
If you can breathe, you have a reason to worship.
4. Come With Singing and Gladness
Psalm 100:2 (ESV) Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!
Worship is joyful. We approach God with singing, not with reluctance.
5. Worship With Thanksgiving
Psalm 95:1–6 (ESV) Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!3 For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.4 In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also.5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. 6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
Worship brings us to our knees in awe of the God who created everything.
6. Worship Through Scripture and Song
Colossians 3:16 (ESV)Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Worship is strengthened by the Word, scripture fuels our praise.
7. Worship as a Continual Sacrifice
Hebrews 13:15 (ESV) Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
Even on hard days, worship isn’t less powerful, it may be even more.
8. Worship in Spirit and Truth (Reaffirmed)
John 4:24 (ESV) God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Authentic worship is rooted in truth and empowered by the Spirit.
9. Enter His Presence With Thanksgiving

Gratitude prepares the heart for worship. Praise begins with “thank you, Lord.”
